Data Engineer for Hire

ABOUT THE EMPLOYER
Our client is looking to bring on a Data Engineer through an offshore development partner to join a small, high-performing Data & Analytics team. This is a hands-on builder-and-operator role where you’ll take ownership of existing Azure Data Factory integrations and Power BI / Microsoft Fabric reporting solutions, ensuring they remain reliable, scalable, and continuously improved. You’ll also be responsible for designing and building new data pipelines, data models, and reporting solutions as the platform evolves.
This is not a support or monitoring-focused position. You’ll work as a full peer alongside a Senior Data Engineer, sharing ownership of the organization’s data platform. Both engineers are expected to independently deliver projects end to end, collaborate closely, and provide coverage for one another when needed. Maintaining and enhancing the existing data environment is considered just as valuable as developing new solutions and is an integral part of the role.
WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?
Operate and extend what we already run:
• Take independent ownership of our existing Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines: monitoring them,
troubleshooting them, tuning performance, and extending them as source systems and
requirements change.
• Own and maintain our existing Power BI and Microsoft Fabric work: scheduled refreshes, datasets
and semantic models, and published reports across Finance, Sales, and Operations, diagnosing and
fixing issues without escalation in the normal case.
• Handle business-stakeholder requests against existing reports and data feeds, taking changes,
fixes, and small enhancements through to delivery.
Build new:
• Design and build new ADF pipelines and Fabric data flows, following the team’s established
patterns and the architecture our platform partner provides.
• Develop new Power BI semantic models, datasets, and reports, including the data modeling and
DAX behind them, to meet business requirements.
• Pitch in on data quality and reconciliation work across our SAP and Dynamics 365 source data.
Document and hand off knowledge:
• Write and maintain documentation and runbooks for everything the engineer owns or builds.
This is a real deliverable of the role, not an afterthought. The team’s resilience depends on
knowledge being written down and shared, so that any engineer can pick up any part of the estate
when a colleague is out.
WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
• Azure Data Factory: 4+ years building and running production ETL/ELT pipelines on their own.
• Power BI: 4+ years building semantic models, datasets, and reports, with strong data modeling
and DAX, and the ability to tune report performance.
• Microsoft Fabric: hands-on experience with the platform, including Lakehouse and Warehouse,
dataflows, and deploying work within workspaces.
• T-SQL: strong query writing, optimization, and debugging against SQL Server and Azure SQL.
• Data warehousing fundamentals: dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, and
medallion (bronze, silver, gold) patterns.
• Source-system experience: practical work with ERP and/or CRM source data, with SAP and
Dynamics 365 strongly preferred, including data quality and reconciliation work.
• Works independently: a track record of owning production systems end to end, triaging and fixing
issues without handholding, and communicating clearly in written English
ARE THERE ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS?
• SAP ECC 6 data structures and extraction patterns; experience with CDC tooling (e.g., Simplement
Roundhouse) a plus.
• GitHub / Git source control and CI/CD for data assets.
• Python and/or PowerShell for data processing and automation.
• Azure Functions, Logic Apps, or Power Platform exposure.
• Experience working in a small team or as part of a distributed/offshore engagement with onshore
stakeholders.
Minimum overlap: a consistent, guaranteed daily window that overlaps US Central business hours, at least three hours, in line with our existing offshore engagement, for standups, coordination, and live troubleshooting handoffs.
